Allie's current music obsessions

I tend to go through phases where I find a song I like and then I’ll listen to it on repeat for weeks until I get sick of it, then rediscover it later and love it all over again.

Here are 5 songs I’m currently obsessed with:

1. To Build a Home-The Cinematic Orchestra

This song isn’t new, but it’s new to me.  I’m a little ashamed to admit that I discovered it while watching Step Up: Revolution. (Actually, no I’m not, I’ll openly admit that I still love all of those movies and have watched each of them repeatedly). The lyrics and the song in general are really beautiful, which is why I’m so drawn to it.

2. Ho Hey (Cover) –Lennon and Maisy Stella

I’m not sure if you’ve watched the show Nashville, but I sure have; it was another one of those shows that I realized existed then watched every episode of. I don’t even really like country music, but for some reason I really love this show. Probably because of Connie Britton. Anyway, these two real life sisters play sisters on the show and I think they’re really grand. Discovering their cover of my current favorite song only made me like them ten times more.

3. Stay (Rihanna Cover) –Fifth Harmony

I had very low expectations for this song before listening to it for the first time because I don’t feel like many people can do it justice; Rihanna really belts it out in her original version. I was pleasantly surprised, however. I originally learned about Fifth Harmony, an all girl group that was put together by Simon Cowell on the show The X Factor, when I stumbled across their cover of Impossible by Shontelle (you can find that here it’s also well worth a listen). I’m very interested to see what these girls do with the album they’re currently working on.

4. Devil Town (Cover) by Tony Lucca

My love for this song is directly related to my love of the show Friday Night Lights. I also think the song speaks for itself. Contrary to what many people on the Internet believe, Bright Eyes did not actually write this song (though, fun fact, the writers of FNL did want to use their cover of it for the show; they turned them down which is why they used Tony Lucca’s version). The song was originally written by Daniel Johnston and was first recorded in January 1990 on his eleventh album, “1990.”

5. Die Young-Timeflies

Say what you will about the group Timeflies, but the dude is literally pulling out slips of paper with words on them and FREE STYLING about them, so color me impressed. I also love Ke$ha, so naturally I enjoy this song since it samples “Die Young.”
