Andrea's Fictional Love Affair:
A guide to TV's swoon-worthy men

On an average Tuesday, you can find me watching the previous night’s episode of Teen Wolf, and tweeting about the unholy things I would do to Dylan O’Brien if given the opportunity. Today, I was in the middle of doing just that when I realized I have a long history of developing unhealthy crushes on fictional, male characters. Some girls have a list of school boy crushes; I have a list of TV heartthrobs. I will now let you walk with me through my past, using celebrities as mile markers. It all began with Shawn Hunter . . .

Shawn (Rider Strong) was my first experience with a “bad boy”. He was the boy every dad was scared of, but deep down, was a sensitive teddy bear. I was able to grow up with Shawn, and still like to walk down memory lane when MTV airs Boy Meets World re-runs. Plus, look at that hair and try to tell me you don’t want to run your fingers through it.

Shawn Hunter

Mr. Jack Dawson was the first boy to break my heart. His epic romance in the Titanic made me fall head-over-heels in love.  I may have been under the age of ten, but I started planning my wedding. To this day, I’m still convinced my soul mate is Leonardo DiCaprio.

Jack Dawson

Jess Mariano

Milo Ventimiglia played Jess on Gilmore Girls, and in my opinion, should have ended up with Rory.  Jess was all around flawless. His mixture of apathy and passion for reading was perfect during my teen angst phase.

Dr. Derek Shepard

Patrick Dempsey plays the doctor every woman wishes they had for their yearly check-up. Dr. Derek Shepard is the same age as my parents, making him my first encounter with forbidden love. In my defense though, I bet it is awfully difficult to find a woman, at any age, who does not like McDreamy. His love for Meredith and overwhelmingly good looks sucks you right in to the dramatic world of Grey-Sloan Hospital.

Lucas Scott

Chad Michael Murray first tried to win me over with his role in A Cinderella Story, but really earned my affection when I started binge watching One Tree Hill on Netflix. Every time his character, Lucas, broke it off with a girl, he would develop puppy-dog eyes that melted my heart.

Damon Salvatore

Ian Somerhalder is the sexiest vampire in current pop culture, Damon. I wanted to hate his role in The Vampire Diaries, but I couldn’t. I rooted for him, even when he was the bad guy. Boys are just too charming sometimes.

Stiles Stalinski

Currently, I want to husband Dylan O’Brien as Stiles on Teen Wolf. Boys in the real world are failing to compare to Stiles’ perfection. He is funny, intelligent, good looking, loyal, brave, and basically everything good in the world all wrapped up into one person. On a regular basis, you can catch me ranting about how Stiles’ lack of a love life is completely unrealistic – more so than the werewolves.

Maybe I become too attached to fictional men, and maybe this is why I’m still fashionably single out here in the real world, but can you blame me? Fictional men are written so nicely, and you never have to spend hours analyzing their “What’s up?” text messages.
