Drinking Buddies via iTunes On Demand: new best thing ever?

While I was generally surfing the movie trailer portion of YouTube, I came across a movie starring the ever-wonderful Anna Kendrick and also Jake Johnson from New Girl. I watched the trailer, a classic story of two best friends who could be more but have significant others simultaneously. I did not regret the $6 I spent renting it for 24 hours.

Kate (Olivia Wilde) and Luke (Jake Johnson) both work together, flirt like pros, and enjoy good beer with each other. It seems like the obvious choice for them to be together, but then we figure out that Luke is almost-engaged to the girl of his dreams Jill (Anna Kendrick) and Kate is in a relationship with the intelligent and brooding Chris (Ron Livingston). They go on a double camping date and things get… complicated to say the least.

What I enjoyed most about this movie is the honest interaction between the characters. I watched this movie for a second time with my roommate in the same day and I just could not get over how realistic the dialogue was. It was never pretentious (aside from the character of Chris who was meant to be) but the words between the dialogue really made this pretty great. It doesn’t follow the normal rom-com happy plot that I anticipated and that made me like it even more.

Also, can we talk about Jake Johnson’s beard? It took same roommate at least five minutes to figure out that this hairy man was the same Nick from New Girl.

I recommend it. I think it’s in theaters now. But you can rent it on this new brilliant invention called iTunes On Demand. Is it not new? Well, it’s new to me and cheaper than a movie ticket and I can watch it in my bed. I don’t know how it gets any better than that.
