5 Fun Games Featured on TV

I’m always the person in my group of friends who suggests playing a board game (seriously, just ask my family). While some people might find the idea of group board games boring, plenty of TV shows and movies have featured some pretty fun games that would be worth trying out in a group. Welcome to my list of party games played by your favorite fictional characters.

New Girl: True American

This game is… complicated to say the least. It is a drinking game, but you could easily play it without. If you watched the New Girl episode Heatwaves, then you know it involves a lot of jumping from furniture and a whole lot of random, but it looks fun. Zooey Deschenel herself said that most of the rules were improvised on the set, but I did come across this video of someone explaining how to play True American from little clips from the episode and their own improvisation… and it looks pretty awesome. There are other explanation videos out there but I thought this version had the best rules.

The Office: Office Olympics

Wanting to get competitive with your friends but have no money to buy a new game? Steal some of the ideas from Office Olympics and play with supplies at your house (also can be made easily into a drinking game if applicable or desired). The most notable game from the Office Olympics includes Flonkerton in which competing office members strap boxes of paper to their feet and see who can cross the finish line first. The same effect could be managed with large textbooks. Check out more of the games here

How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days: Bullshit

This scene is still one of my favorites in movie history—watching old people swear is my favorite. I’m sure many of you have played this game, but if not, the premise is pretty easy. Pass out the entire deck of cards evenly to each person. Whoever has the ace of spades lays down the card face down. The person to their left has to lay down a 2 (or as many 2’s as they have). If you don’t have one, pretend! It is up to the other players to call bullshit if they think you’re lying. First person to run out of cards, wins.

Super Fun Night: The Fun Night Jar

The Fun Night jar isn’t as much a game as a good idea. If you and your friends are out of ideas about what to do, pulling out a random (and sometimes crazy) activity out of a jar could be an exciting idea.

BONUS Parks and Rec: The Cones of Dunshire

Ben Wyatt is perfect in all areas, except maybe his boredom. If you can figure out how to play the game he created, The Cones of Dunshire, best of luck to you and your friends!
