Maggie's Ultimate TV Music Playlist

I’m not going to lie—most of my musical discoveries start from a random instrumental portion of a song featured in a movie that I quickly Shazam from the theater. But today I’m talking about my favorite songs from my home theater: the best TV playlist of 2013.

Teen Wolf

Surprisingly, this show has many sentimental ballads (my bread and butter) amidst the crazy fighting sequences. My love for the character of Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) may play into why these two songs are my favorite from this season.

Joanna by Deaf Joe

This haunting song played during the unbelievably adorable/tragic story of Derek’s youth via his first love, Paige.

Touch by Daughter

This played during the first time Derek and Ms. Blake… became familiar with each other.

Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s has been known to have the best music in television for the past 9 seasons it has aired. This season was no different.

500 Miles (I’m Gonna Be) by Sleeping At Last

While you may recognize the title made famous by The Proclaimers, this version slows the peppy song down and uses that darned piano to pull at your heartstrings. This is the scene where Arizona cheated—no. I can’t even talk about it.

Closest I Get by Katie Herzig

I guess I’m fudging the whole this season roll I’m on. But this song is probably one of my favorites. Katie Herzig is so talented (and she favorited my tweet once so that was pretty cool). This song played while Alex read Clementine the love letter.

Awkward

Of course all of these songs are in relation to the wonderful Matty McKibben (Beau Mirchoff). MTV just does a fantastic job finding quality music for their TV shows.

The Deep End by Hannah Georgas

Falling Away by Big Scary

I think this song may have technically come from the season 2 trailer, but I fully enjoy and celebrate its magnificence as if it were part of the show.

This was a nice Matty and Jenna moment during their happy period in season 3. Those were the good old days.

The Vampire Diaries

Well, since I’ve already written an article in which I admitted to looking forward to the next season of TVD I shouldn’t be embarrassed to add this show to the list. Season 4 has produced some of the best alternative ballad moments thanks to Damon and Elena.

Belong by Cary Brothers

Oblivion by Bastille

The moment of all moments in the season 4 finale with *spoiler* Elena chose Damon!

It’s definitely an ironic song because the scene is when Stefan finds out that Elena and Damon are together together. He’s no longer oblivious!

Gossip Girl

Yes, I am going back to GG because I also own about every good song from the series. I’ve narrowed it down to the two best by some miracle.

Signs by Bloc Party

I’m In Here by Sia

This may be my favorite scene in the whole series. It’s just after a certain powerful Upper East Sider’s funeral and Chuck comes to visit Blair. The song plays in various forms throughout the episode and is just really beautiful.

The fateful train station meet up between Blair and Chuck (or Henry Prince?). Gets me teary-eyed every time.
